this is a long post

I'm taking a few minutes to write this post so I can remember this time in my life. I'm currently sitting in the attic-like area of Hammond Hall. The time is 10:36pm. I'm fairly sure I'm the only one here, but I haven't gone to check because these jeans are making my legs chafe and I'm doing the least amount of walking I can today. I need to remember to wash clothes when I get home. And also, get rid of these pants. I should be working on an annual report for my internship, and I'll get to that. I'm waiting on my other emulsion coated screen to dry & if everything goes as planned, it'll be done at midnight. I mean things never go as planned for me, but I remain hopeful. I keep missing a phone call from Rosh, which makes my heart hurt. (Rosh, I promise I'm not intentionally ignoring you.)

Today was a good day. Nothing was too great. Nothing was too bad. I got to sleep for an extremely long time. I'm finding myself, this semester, really admiring people who can go for days on so few hours of sleep and not completely shut down. I know that sometimes you (and by 'you', I actually mean me) have to stay up all night. Sometimes that just has to be done to get things accomplished. Usually though, when I've stayed up all night one night, I figure out any way possible to get the most sleep possible the next day. It's not possible to catch up on that missed sleep retroactively, I know this, but I do it every time. I will shirk all responsibilities to be able to sleep. I will even skip food. Haha jk I will eat first and then sleep.
But anyway, I got to the university later than I wanted to, but nobody was waiting on me so that was okay. I walked in the door to see TD's lovely, smiling face. Hah. Then I got my transparencies printed. And I got to spend some quality time goofing off with some of my favorite new friends in a teeny time room. I've never felt more stressed in my life, but I know that I've found my people. I can go to these people and tell them my stupid art things and they understand and still like me pretty well.

I finally screen printed my first color for my monster print. (I did not have a good day yesterday.) We're making a book in class, exchanging and compiling all of these prints to make an exquisite corpse type piece. I love this. I love that we're working separately & together at the same time. I can not wait to show it off.

It took me longer than I wanted to get my prints done, but they all turned out so, so nice. The ink was smooth and I only had like 2 where the ink didn't go through all the way & that was definitely because by print 9 or 10, my back was KILLING me. I am so unfit. And I was sweating and everything. Very attractive. But everything else was going so well. I feel like I really know how to screen print now. My registration has gotten so much better. I've figured out that I can get really lined up if I make a right angle with my tape and then have another piece up the side to keep it even more secure. And my ink is coming evenly and smooth ever since I watched this how this guy from my class screen prints and also I watched a youtube video about the best consistency of ink.

I had a flyer for Kappa Pi that I really needed to go to work and print and give to H. I was supposed to meet her at 2:30, but like I said, was running behind, and I didn't get over there to meet her until 3:10. So in turn I was late to my printmaking class that starts at 3. It was really sucky of me to keep someone waiting, but she didn't seem too upset about it. And Prof S was totally cool about me being late.

I forgot to print off my design for printmaking so I spent all of class clicking on things in photoshop and gossiping and creating inside jokes with my friends. I'll have a lot to do this weekend, but that's okay. I always have a lot to do on the weekend.

Went to Jack's with TD and was super pleased with the hamburgers and french fries I had there.

I came over here to Hammond after class and got everything ready to print my second color, and coated my screen with emulsion. Everything went really good with my second color. Like unbelievably good. So here we are. Now I'm going to put some pictures on here to either thank you for reading all this, or to give you something else to do besides read.

See those black rectangles? That's my secret to okay registration.

It's nice to work after hours because I can spread out everywhere.

These colors in this photo do nothing for the actual colors in this print. They are so vivid & nice in real life. See that little faint blue mark on the side of the paper? That is a bit of dark blue ink. That exact splotch is on every single print. It really shows the tiny intricacies that a burned screen can provide. This is my best print that lined up as perfectly as possible. I have 3 that I think turned out so perfect. The other 17 are pretty okay. And I am pleased as pie about that.

These are bowls that I'm working on. The bottom ones that look like they're still made of mud, are waiting to be bisque fired and the three in the back that look like they're made of some kind of weird white stuff, are waiting to be glazed.

Captured John Donovan making a hilarious face and Adam Paulek sticking his arm in a pot. These photos are from a visiting artist workshop that we had last week and it was super fun to meet these guys and learn from them. I really want to make a post that just talks about what I learned from those two days, but even if I never get around to it, here are the pictures.

The artist's doing their thing and a bunch of unwillingly photographed students. Plus my new favorite Professor, John Oles.

This is from the last day of the workshop and I just thought it was cool to have the artist that taught us how to make this art holding the art that we made.

I haven't felt like I've had a lot of time to do big things with AIGA JSU this semester, the little club that could, that my graphic design friends and I started last semester. But in reality we've done some pretty cool things this semester. We talked to the legend Jude Landry one night. One meeting, we met at Java Jolt and drew on this poster. Which turned out so nicely and I only fucked it up a little bit. (And then I promptly fixed the part I fucked up.) I just really like how it turned out and I may take it home and hang it up on my wall at the end of the semester.

This is from Java Jolt and it's less about who's in the photo and what they're doing and more about the fact that a table full of designers are sitting around a sign that says RESERVED in papyrus type. We did not do that, but we couldn't have planned that kind of irony.

This is my teapot sitting right next to John Oles teapot (!) and next to other students work at the Gadsden Museum of Art.

This is my wine bottle design that won honorable mention in the 2016 Student Juried show at JSU.

And this is me looking dopey near my wine bottle.

"I like your shirt."

You know how sometimes people will comment on things that you are wearing and you'll just flippantly say, "thank you" like you designed and sewed the thing? Well that happened to me today & I just said thank you, but this time I felt it was deserved, because I actually did design this shirt. Somebody else printed it, but still.

life RIGHT NOW

I wish I could find somebody to pay(not with money, because I don't have any money) to do my figure drawing assignments for me. It's not that I don't want to do them, I just don't want to spend valuable time on them when I could be finishing something, anything for graphic design.
I feel very overwhelmed by the amount of work I should be producing, but am certainly not producing. I say all this while I'm writing this blog post. Very counter productive. I could be spending this time right now actually working towards completing something. BUT isn't there something to be said for taking some time for yourself to do exactly what you want to do and not what you have to do. I'm trying to make my life better here!

One of my profs told us the other day to be proud of everything that you present to clients. If you're presenting  your work to someone and you're like ugh I hope they don't pick that one, it's the worst one I did, then why the heck did you give them the option to pick the worst one. I really liked the idea of that, but I also understand that sometimes I can only come up with crappy ideas and that's all I got. Sometimes I just hate what I make. Sometimes it surprises me when people enjoy what I make. So I dunno.

My pinterest is full of typography and food, which makes me so happy.

Currently, I'm doing a brain dump and writing down everything that is on my to do list and things that I just want to do. I'm trying to organize my life hour by hour so that hopefully I can be ahead of everything instead of way behind like I currently am. I feel doubtful that I will know how to pick times accurately, but I'll have to try. I cannot continue to pull all-nighters multiple times a week. From what I understand about life as a designer, I won't be able to cut them out completely. I just want to sleep. I love sleep. It's one of my favorite parts of the day.

The cool and also terrifying thing about life is that you can sleep for an entire day and life will still continue. You can work harder than you've ever worked in your life and the world will continue on. I'm having one of those mid semester crisises where I don't know what I'm doing or why I'm bothering to be so stressed out about it. I am stressed though. So so stressed.

The movie Snowpiercer fucked me up.

Here's a thing that happened. In one of my assignments from class, we had to submit the design to cottonbureau.com at the deadline as a part of the assignment. And my design got picked! It's very cool and exciting, but the shirts are really expensive. Also, I feel like they really make designers do a lot, but maybe their shirts are really high quality. But 13 people spent $33 because they love me very much. And that feels pretty okay.

retrospect

Thoughts from spring 2015 semester, now that it's waaay in the rear view mirror.

*Now, I notice type, logos, & packaging on everything. I can't tell if I love that or hate that. No, wait, yes I absolutely love it. I just have to remember that literally only other graphic designers get excited about those things. Every one else gives no shits.
*I have no idea how I would get anything done without social media. I know the internet gets a bad wrap for being a distraction, but after this semester, I have a new appreciation. There were so many times that I needed to get in touch with somebody from class and I just looked to see if anyone was online. It really made me remember all those times I stayed up on AIM in middle school.
*Also, that social media thing is a double edged sword. Sometimes I dream about going dark and cutting ties with the internet, but it would really hurt me because I couldn't get in touch with anyone I need to for school.
*I am constantly struggling to be creative. I want to keep the vigor going from the semester, but I also want to slow down because the semester was crazypants.
*I'm completely scared to graduate. Last semester felt so real. I was and still feel completely unprepared. There are so many things.

Here are some arts from my favorite professor's classes:

As far as I could tell, we were allowed almost free reign on our projects. They had to be based on a piece during the art period we studied. Otherwise, anything. Any art medium. I made A's in all his classes so I guess I did it right. Every single one of these, I put on the back burner and finished them at the very last minute. Almost all of them turned out so much better than I could've hoped and probably even better than anything from any of my other classes.

My first project from Dr. J's class was this cactus guy. I have him sitting on top of a shelf in my room and every time a newbie walks into my room, they comment on how creepy he is. It's not his fault. He's a Cactus Man! (Based on Redon's Cactus Man.) He's the only one of his kind. He is just lonely.
The other is a master copy painting of a Mondrian that I can't remember the name of and some sugar cookies I made based on another Mondrian. I spent a lot of time making the sugar cookies and then I was worried that Prof J would be displeased with the medium of baked goods so I hastily painted the other piece.

I know I already posted this one, but for the sake of continuity, here it is again. '2 Hearts'

These two are the same painting. Based on a still from Repo Man.

This skeleton finished up my personal skeleton theme I had going last semester. It's a super poorly done master copy of De Humani Corporis. I am actually super embarrassed about these two because they are so crappy. The vader one is a simplified movie poster.

My De Palma pieces. A stationary package for Swan from Phantom of the Paradise and the birthday cake from Sisters. This was another case where I wanted to just use the cake as my project, but since I just bought the cake from a bakery, I wasn't sure if it would count so I just threw together the stationary package. When I got to class that day and showed my project, Prof J was like, 'why did you bring 2 things? You could have just brought one.'

Week 1 of 100 days

If you've been following along on my instagram, you'd know that I've been willingly participating in a form of self-imposed monotony. My summer class professor brought up the idea during the last week of class, that we should all do it. The 100 day project. It wouldn't be the actual one because that one started in April. So I decided I would do it. I gave myself until June 1st to think of something to do and then start.
I've begun to really respect the self control it takes to do something everyday. It's really hard. It sucks. But I'm doing it. I'm going to do it as long as I can. It's about the process, not the finished product. As I was deciding on a topic, I found that I really liked the projects that were pretty specific and kind of had a string of connection the whole way through. I wanted to do something that was specific, but the idea of doing something in the same style for 100 days feels so daunting right now. Maybe for the next 100. I decided to give myself the parameters of a 4.125" x 6" canvas and it's gotta say happy birthday somehow. I like switching from digital to analog and back again & I wanted to make sure I built in that flexibility into my prompt.
I really am drawn to this project because I like that I can do whatever the hell I want. I can put shitty type with shitty colors and be done. I'm very excited about that freedom. I like that it's actual "art" that isn't school related at all.

And now onto the outtakes from this week!

Day One-
I finished this one at about 11:30pm on June 1. If I hadn't already decided that I was going to follow the rules on this one, I'd probably have done it over and made the dots more even. I've got to take a better picture of this though. I discovered that when it gets dark, my room is horrible for photography. Plus I suck at photographs. I'm hoping this project forces me to get better.

Day Two-
I had this idea about spray paint and stencils. The finished postcard is definitely not how I envisioned my idea. It's okay.

Day Three-
I really need to figure out how to do this 100 days thing while still working on other creative projects that I'd like to get done over the summer. I've been spending a ton of time daydreaming about how I'll say happy birthday next. Too much time, I'd say. I saw a friend of mine this day & she said she thought I picked the perfect major for myself, which I thought was really cool of her to say.

Day Four-
It took me a long time to do the highlighter background so when I messed up on the lettering, I didn't really want to bother to re-do it.

Day Five-
DOUGHNUTS. It was national donut day plus I love doughnuts. I had to go along with the occasion. Putting the sprinkles on there took forever and it didn't even look that great. But hey, I tried. I put the sprinkles on there and took these photos, then I went to staples to get them printed on 100lb paper. I cut them to 4.125x6 and then I took another picture of the physical postcard for instagram.

Day Six-
So this was the first card where I had a person in mind like I was making it for them, instead of just a vague idea to go by. I really like how it turned out compared to the others. It makes sense because they always tell us in GD classes to design for your audience.  I roped my father into helping me take a photo. He said, "You're nuts."

Day Seven-
I must admit that this one was done a few days in advance. I bought some candies last Thursday and then I arranged them and photographed them. I got the card printed today at Office Max. For Future Reference: I've got to remember to tell the person I'm printing from to not scale the pdf.

#ever

It's 9:43 and I'm just now having supper. That's what happens when you're too excited about making an animated loading page to remember to eat. Time is passing by way too quickly. I can't believe my summer class is over tomorrow. There are so many things I wanted to do before the end! Like finish those silly class shirts.

Loading page design for my app, Donut Search Party.

While I was fixing my dinner, I was thinking, 'yeah, I'll take a break and eat and just relax for a few minutes.' And then I caught myself editing something in illustrator.

My favorite class

I have waited and watched enough to warrant a whole post about it. If you can believe it, I've seen all these and I'm still 12 behind, plus 6 more that I'm not behind, but still have to watch. I've got 2 weeks and if I'm very diligent, I think I can finish before the final.

Moving Images Update:
Mulholland Drive, Lynch, 2001 - So so so strange. My professor explained the movie to us afterward and I liked it a little more after that. I love when things have reasons, but I also love when they don't. This movie could work both ways. I can't say I loved it, but I appreciate it.
Easy Rider, Hopper, 1969 - Great soundtrack and young Jack Nicholson was great. I didn't really connect to the plot, but I guess that's okay because it seemed to mostly be about drugs and motorcycles.
Shock Corridor, Fuller, 1964 - People keep telling me to fake it 'til you make it, and I would say this movie is a great example of pretending to be something until it's true.
Satan’s Brew, Fassbinder, 1976 - I just watched this yesterday with a group of friends from class. We weren't even paying full attention to the movie and it was still rough. It's in German with subtitles. It's so weird and not the good kind. I don't want to ever watch it again.
Who are you Polly Maggoo, Klien, 1966 - It's french so everything is pretty. I liked the commentary on discerning what's real and what's fake in this life of ours.
Kind Hearts and Coronets, Hamer, 1949 - Funniest voice over. Lots of murder. It was a fun time.
Frasier: Season 5 - I had seen a few episodes of Frasier, but it must've been from a later season. I can totally see why Dr. J loves this show.
Doctor Who (reboot), Seasons 1-2 - Of course, I had already seen these. I re-watched most of them though. I had forgotten about the episode Love & Monsters and it's one of my favorites. It's sad and absurd and funny and beautiful, which are all of the reasons I love the show. Me and about 80% of my class did a response project on Doctor Who. Here's mine.
Barrow, The Doctor Goes To The Doctor, 2015
The Night of the Hunter, Laughton, 1955 - I loved this movie. It really spoke to me for some reason. I loved the hilarious little girl, the weirdly beautiful dead body, the creepy preacher that used religion for evil, the hard-nosed lady that used religion for good, the fact that it's pretty much a fairy tale. It was just good.
Lord of the Flies, Brook, 1963 - It's fucked up that humans would reduce to this, and the way the movie was shot made it feel so documentary-like and realistic. I kind of want to read the book now.
Sisters, De Palam, 1974 - I described this to a friend in class as, "It's about conjoined twins... kind of." and my professor was like, "wtf, really?" but I stand by my statement.
Watership Down, Rosen, 1978 - I've seen this movie three times now and I still don't understand the beginning. I love the animation though. I think I'm going to do my final response project on it because I also love that it's animated movie, which are usually for children, that is so violent.
Macbeth, Polanski, 1971 - I slept on and off during this whole movie. When I wasn't sleeping, I was focusing on trying not to fall asleep. My sleeping has nothing to do with the quality of the movie, I just hadn't slept in about 24 hours so a dark room with people speaking Shakespearean English was a dangerous combination. I did fully wake up at the end when Macbeth's head was sliced off. That was exciting. I'll have to re-watch because I don't know that much about Macbeth, except for the witches and the fact it's called "The Scottish Play".
The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, Cassavetes, 1976 - It felt very 70's and I just wasn't that into it.
The Honeymoon Killers, Kastle, 1969 - Featuring Mobile, AL. The main lady really gave southern women a bad name and I hate that, but I guess real southern ladies give southern women a bad name so I suppose it's realistic. She was just a whiny brat and I wanted to slap her.
Eating Raoul, Bartel, 1982 - Very funny. Lots of irony and I freaking love irony. Super farce-y. It was also very eighties and I love that. I kind of half-watched while I was working on some stuff for school and I'll have to re-watch over the summer when I have some more time.

Pieces of shit

Everything is dumb and terrible. I mostly had a lovely day today though. I was late to class. The university closed due to weather. I napped for 2.5 hours and it was glorious. I checked off a couple things off my to do list. I made pasta for dinner and I accidentally cooked the garlic bread too long. I watched about 6 episodes of Doctor Who season 2. We are talking about Doctor Who tomorrow in class and I was going to wear my dr. who shirt to class, but then I didn't to want to look like a huge dork. Then I realized I am a huge dork so it's okay.

The other day, I asked my friend about advice on how to fix oily skin. Because she's a girl and she cares about that kind of crap. She asked if I was drinking enough water and suggested that I drink lots more. Really I had been feeling kind of parched lately and I know I haven't been drinking, but like 1 glass of water a day. I'm not sure how water and oily skin relates, but it's easy and real cheap. I've drank so much water in the last two days. Had to pee so freaking much.

Here is a thing I made about a fake art exhibition.

Good intentions

Hey Monday was so great! I actually felt liked and accepted by my peers! I didn't feel like the art dept was so cut throat and vicious!

Barrow, It's Better Not To Look, 2015
This is a painting I did for Dr. J's class in response to the movie Repo Man, which is an excellent movie by the way. It's the scene near the end when the obnoxious punk gets vaporized. I painted the skeleton with florescent paint and the background with glow in the dark paint so that the whole thing would glow under blacklight. The streaky bits look kinda shitty, but I actually did that on purpose because in the movie the car looks very much like it was painted with glow in the dark paint. When I was watching the movie I knew I could recreate that. I'm going to have to go back in and add more glow in the dark paint though. The unevenness really bothers me.

I used to hear my classmates talk about artwork that they do just for fun outside of class and I would think, oh shit maybe I'm kidding myself and I'll never be an artist because I didn't have any outside of class pieces. This semester though (and a little bit last semester from Dr. J's class) [Note to self: make a post about AH projects.], I've made a few things that I absolutely loved and would totally have made just for fun outside of class. That Repo Man painting is included in the fun stuff I would actually do in my free time category. It's not Louvre quality, but I love it. It's okay to be shitty at things.

drowning and pretending; dreaming and passing by

I have a cough. But as I have reassured the many people who have commented that I continue to sound worse, I don't actually feel bad. I do feel gross when I'm coughing because it's a "productive" cough and that is the worst.

My internet is so slow and it is really messing with my tumblr browsing and youtube watching. The images won't load faster than I'm scrolling. Everything takes forever. I'll have to look more into it because I cannot stand having slow internet. What if I need to do more important internet things besides scrolling through tumblr?! I mean, I won't, but what if?

I've found out, I think, that my wifi antenna on my computer is probably on the stupidest place on the back of my computer. I don't actually know this for sure because I don't actually know how the technology of computer works. It seems, though, that whenever I'm in slouch position on my bed and I have my leg propped up on my other leg, therefore blocking some sort of mythical technology in the back of my computer, I lose a decent internet connection. I don't like it.

This is a sketch from class today where she wanted us to sketch 20 sketches in ten minutes. (Let me type sketch one more time...) Anyway they were supposed to be about the things my classmates researched and shared. And they could be about anything you visualized while they were talking, or really just actually anything you wanted to draw. She didn't grade them or anything; it was just an exercise.
It was really nice to just let go. Even though I recognize how shitty it is. I need to force myself to draw more often.

Also, how the heck does a person take a decent picture of a sketchbook? I don't know how to do it yet. Surely, you don't have to have a dslr and a light thing or a freaking iphone. Surely not.

I've been watching so many Jessica Hische talks on youtube and she's cool and a great graphic designer, but I get this vibe from great graphic designers that rubs me the wrong way. It makes me feel like I could never be a graphic designer because I don't feel like I connect to that personality that makes a graphic designer. Not saying I'm not a condescending douchebag sometimes, or that all graphic designers have that personality. I just don't know. I guess I'm still not sure about what I'm good at or what I could do that makes money or what I even want.

It's nice to be loved. But it's also kind of annoying, isn't it? I have to stop myself so often from completely flipping my shit at little well meaning things that my grandmother does. Like whenever I have my laptop out in the living room, she asks "Whatcha doing?" Which I always have a hard time interpreting that in any other way than nosy. That's not nice of me, and I get it. Another example, I needed to go to the bank last night at 7:30 because that's the only free time I had during the day and I needed to put a check in my account (because you can't do anything with a check except put it in the bank and it was driving me crazy just holding this useless paper). She visibly did not want me to leave the house. She says, "There's criminals out there." I had to respond with, "I'm not going to not leave the house because of criminals." I felt really mean. But also rage-y.

School has just started back (a week ago) so now I'll actually have things to post about. It was hard for me to post about interesting thoughts when I had exactly none because I spent 8 days in a row getting up at 3pm and marathoning shows I had seen already. Glamorous. I tend to post more during school because I love to focus on improving my blog when I really should be doing thumbnails or re-reading my notes. Plus, I have social interaction during school times and that usually brings on some noteworthy thoughts and cringeworthy moments.

Be prepared for a run down of the movies from my film class. The films are bound to produce some posts. Probably of me going wtf i dont get it, but maybe I'll glean something from all the critiques I've had to endure and I'll actually describe them in an intellectual way. Well as much as possible.

Cool Kids

I had word vomit in my art history class today. I spoke up about the dumbest things and then immediately felt embarrassed and vowed not to speak again and then I almost compulsively spoke again. Like once I even said, "Oh, yeah, I totally hate dreams. The worst things happen while you're dreaming." I said that in front of twenty other people. And with this professor, you can tell when he thinks what you're saying is dumb because he changes the subject really quick. Most of the time the class feels like a big inside joke that only the kids who have had that professor before understand. It's just a touch uncomfortable, but I'm not a petulant child so it's fine.
My coworkers and I had to relocate monday and tuesday while they waxed the floors in our building and we went to this building across campus that also has staff from our department in it. I got to talk to one of my other coworkers that I almost never get to see which is a cryin' shame because of how handsome he is. There are rumors floating around that my boss and M and I might have to permanently move over there. The only thing I don't like about it is the parking is horrible over there. Otherwise, if we do move, I'll get to talk to a cute boy erryday and that is almost worth the horrible parking.

Y'all I have TWO lovely concerts to look forward to in October. I am ultra excited.

I like the idea of a pineapple having arms and wearing sunglasses. If I drew this again, and I might just, I would not use this pattern for the yellow part, it looks ridiculous.

Oh hey, in case you noticed, the Chantilly Lace banner that's usually at the top is temporarily gone until I make a new one. I'm being a fancy art student and learning how to use adobe illustrator so it may not be soon, but I will make my own word art instead of using some font that I downloaded from the internet and could get sued for. Getting sued is really not in my budget.

human thesaurus

Remember how in a previous post, I mentioned that I was going to draw more because I was taking a drawing class and drawing is kind of okay and plus I'm an art major so I should do more art stuff. So I've decided to do more art stuff. I've been thinking about this blog lately and what I could do to liven it up a bit. I've had such a hard time finding anything to write about. Not all of my posts are gold, but they are all things I'm at least interested in. I've kept this blog up mainly because I love to journal, & in this I can edit easily and without inhibitions. I can never bring myself to physically write in a book on the reg. Plus I've always been the kind of person that wants a tiny bit of attention so I like sharing on the internet. I'm saying all that to say that I'm going to post a sketchbook page every so often. Maybe consistently. I am famously consistently inconsistent so we'll see. But at least I'm not just going to mention it and then forget about actually starting it because here's the first one!

This is a blind contour self portrait. I drew it over the summer because I had to for class. It sucks but I like it.

I made this decision to add more drawy art stuff with huge influence from this cool person Sarah. She's doing this thing called 'get messy' and it seems really fun, and while it is very inspiring, that level of structure is too much for my livelihood. I followed her links to the other 'get messy' blogs and this one in particular is pretty damn sweet. I just want to post my sketchbook and so I will. Plus I'm enamored with handwriting(including my own) and I so want to have more of it on here.

Speaking of previous posts, I am still enthralled with this song by Bastille that I mentioned in this post. I've never been the kind of person to dissect the meaning behind a song. Most of the time, I like a song because of the way the words sound coming out of someone's mouth. You know? Like the way a word feels. But not in an emotional type way, more a physical way, but obviously you can't actually touch a word. Kind of similar to how some textures are pleasing while others are irksome. Is this too artsy fartsy or do other people think this way too? Anyway, in the song Dan sings either "There's a hole in my soul, I can't feel it, I can't feel it" or "There's a hole in my soul, I can't fill it, I can't fill it." Deductive reasoning would suggest that it is "fill it" because hole and stuff, but I dunno. I don't really care to look it up. I like to think about the differences while I'm listening to the song.

The other day, the girl I work with(I've never mentioned her before now, but she started in our office near the beginning of summer.) was writing something for class and asked P & I about a word or something and P was like, "Oh ask Annabelle she's the English person" and then M laughed and said, "Are you a human thesaurus?" I told her that alas, I am not, and I must rely on the google machine to do all the dirty work. I think that would be my dream super power. How lame! But still, I would love it.

That reminds me of one of my favorite conversations I ever had with Dr. G about his overuse of words. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away when I was in his class, I pointed out that he says things & crap & stuff a lot. Did not point that out to bust his balls. Just made an observation. I just notice those kinds of things because I love a thesaurus. He gave this lovely analogy of how I'm like that character in Lord of the Rings that stabbed somebody & left a little piece in & now it just hurts. I miss him and our banter!

G and I watched Bad Words a few days ago and it was kinda cringe-y to watch with her. If you knew her you'd understand. It was a good movie though. Solid. It had a good moral, too. Which was: Don't be an asshole to anyone. Even if they're being a huge asshole to you. If you retaliate, you will look like the bigger idiot, always.

artist lol

I snapchatted this to Smells without a caption and I immediately regretted it because without explanation it just looks like I'm a shitty drawer.

I am, but for this particular drawing I was kind of shitty on purpose because that was the assignment. We had to do blind contours, which is where you draw the outlines of a thing without looking at your paper while you're drawing. It's some kind of animal skull.

JSU artists

Just fudged a knit stitch & immediately thought "Shit, control z." Didn't work, unfortunately.

Today after class, I walked around the art building and looked at all the art. The printmaking class made these pieces that were mostly animals joined with other animals and they were okay, but this one piece was different. I am in love. I wish I deciphered the signature so I could be friends with this person. I'm really bummed about the quality of the photos I took. They turned out really janky for some reason, but still. Still awesome.

The title was the best part.
